The Court

Feel the breeze shift, marking the turn of the seasons. The Wheel of the Year spins anew, unveiling a distant, fleeting realm... Welcome to The Court! Join our coterie, led by Queen Mab; local singer, songwriter, and performance artist.

The Court is a celebration of folklore, folk culture, and folk horror. It's a living zine - a vibrant hub where scholars and artists converge, bonded by a deep affection for ancient tales and rustic mystique. Through talks, stories, and music, we weave a rich tapestry of tradition, wonder, and imagination.

Above, in the theatre, we dive into a world of creativity and exploration, with curated performances and an open mic welcoming all who wish to share their folk-inspired art. Below, in the bar, wander through the enchanting night market, where local artisans showcase their crafted treasures. Our night market runs through-out the evening of The Court, welcoming you at The Yellow Book from 18:00 - 22:00.

As the Autumnal Equinox nears, we honour the delicate balance of light and dark. We are proud to present creators whose works embody this harmony, offering their rich and thoughtful creations for your contemplation...

Rosie Evans

Rosie Evans is the eponymous ‘High Fantasy’ Brighton-based luxury fashion label, creating one-off and small runs of anachronistic historically inspired fashion, following the ethical practice of upcycling old textiles and materials. Inspired by Rosie’s home land of South Wales and the poets and artists that hail from there, each piece has a sense of anarchic heritage - a flirty and humorous look at culture of the past. Folk stories and folk horror media have woven their way into Rosie's practise, with collections taking inspiration from classic myths and legends and her short film the Esyllt and the Ivy taking inspiration from an old Welsh tale and visual cues from the classic 1970's TV kids folk horror The Owl Service.

Amiot

Amiot is a theatre-maker, drag artist, and storyteller who explores the intersections between queerness, ecology, and folklore. For The Court they will be embodying Tiddy Mun - the angered fenland spirit of East Anglian folklore. This trans reimagining draws together the ecological violence of the draining of the fens with the violent upholding of cisnormativity and asks us to imagine what it would look like if the dams burst over, the drainage pumps broke, and we allowed our structures of gender to sink back into the marshes.

Fae as Folk

Draw back the Veil and peer into the realm of the Unseelie with dark folk bards, Fae as Folk. This all-female four-piece combines captivating folklore, ethereal harmonies, and compelling instrumentation to take you on a journey of song and story.
